Professor Shaalan is a certified speech-language pathologist by 3 professional organizations in Canada, the USA and the UK. He is currently the Director of Allied Health Services at an international rehabilitation centre in UAE. He has contributed to 16 publications and conference papers and edited book chapters on assessment and treating speech disorders.
Dr Shaalan is a certified speech-language pathologist by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) and the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK. He has practised in many countries and with a variety of populations.
He is currently the Director of Allied Health Services at an international rehabilitation centre in UAE. He is certified in ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and most of the commonly used tools to assess speech and language disorders. Dr Shaalan has developed many assessment tools that are widely used with Arabic-speaking clients.
He earned his PhD in Psychology & Language and Developmental Science from the University College of London in the UK in 2010 and has a master's degree in Applied Speech-Language Pathology from the School of Communication Sciences and Disorder at the Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, Canada.
He has contributed many scientific papers at international conferences and authored two chapters and peer-reviewed journals and wrote two chapters in two books published in the US, and the Netherlands. He also co-edited a special issue of the Arab Journal of Applied Linguistics (AJAL), titled Speech-Language Therapy Services in the Arab World and the Diaspora in December 2022.
Dr Shaalan held the position of Assistant Professor at Dar Al-Hikmah University in Saudi Arabia, was the instructor for the graduate course “Seminar in Autism Spectrum Disorders”, and was the External Examiner for the Clinical Research Project- the Master in Speech-Language Pathology Program.
