Dr. Nikiphorou has a clinical and academic interest in rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis, with relevant research qualifications (MD(Res) and Ph.D.), and has contributed to approximately 200 publications and research papers. Her interest in inflammatory arthritis has prompted strong collaborative international research.
She completed her MBBS at University College London and obtained first-class honors for her Intercalated BSc in Physiology. She has completed her rheumatology training in the East of England, finishing at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. During this time, she was awarded a CLRN Research Associate Fellowship which culminated in her first research degree (MD(Res)) at University College London, examining structural outcomes in rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Dr. Nikiphorou has a keen interest in medical education with leading positions in this area, organizing and chairing relevant meetings at national and international levels. Additionally, she is an Associate Editor and reviewer of journals and scientific abstracts and is involved in several national and international rheumatology societies and initiatives.
She has held several leadership positions over the years, including the Presidentship of the Rheumatology & Rehabilitation section at The Royal Society of Medicine and the Chair of the largest network of young rheumatologists and researchers in Europe (The Emerging EULAR Network).
