Dr. Asimakopoulos has graduated from the University of Hamburg Medical School, Germany in 1992. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1997. After that, he trained in cardiac surgery in West London for 7 years and spent a year as a fellow in Heart and Lung Transplantation at Harefield Hospital, Harefield, UK.

Dr. Asimakopoulos spent 6 years working in the University of Bristol Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a consultant cardiac surgeon. During that period, he performed more than 230 heart surgeries every year.

Dr. Asimakopoulos joined Royal Brompton Hospital in February 2014, as a cardiac surgery consultant and is still working there until now. He is also an educational supervisor for trainee doctors in adult cardiac surgery and regularly acts as a supervisor for medical students.

He has published more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
