Dr. Gerardo Conesa Bertrán is a distinguished neurosurgeon based in Barcelona, Spain, with over 30 years of experience. He serves as Chief of Neurosurgery at the Teknon Neuroscience Institute and leads private practice at Neurogrup. His clinical interests include epilepsy surgery, neuro-oncology, brain tumors in eloquent areas with awake craniotomy, spinal tumors, and vascular neurosurgery. Dr. Gerardo Conesa Bertrán earned his MD in 1982 and PhD in 1994 from the University of Barcelona. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Hospital de Bellvitge in 1990 and received further certification from the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) in 1991.
Over the past three decades, Dr. Conesa has held leadership roles in several top-tier Spanish medical institutions. He served as Chief of Neurosurgery at Hospital del Mar University Hospital and Hospital de Sant Pau. He is currently the Chief of Neurosurgery and Medical Director at the Teknon Neuroscience Institute and Neurogrup in Barcelona.
His clinical expertise spans epilepsy surgery, brain tumor resection in eloquent areas, awake craniotomy, spinal tumor removal, vascular neurosurgery, and treatment of Chiari malformations and syringomyelia. He has contributed significantly to the advancement of neurosurgical planning using neuronavigation, functional mapping, and virtual reality.
Dr. Conesa is a frequent speaker at international conferences and has co-authored more than 100 publications. He has led multiple high-impact research projects funded by Spanish and European institutions and contributed to renowned medical textbooks including Gray’s Anatomy.
