Prof. Giulio Garaffa is a Consultant Urologist at Whittington Hospital in London, UK, where he is responsible for the Andrology Service. He holds an MD, a PhD in Biotechnologies of Human Reproduction, Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and Fellowship of the European Committee of Sexual Medicine. He has over 20 years of clinical and surgical experience. He is recognized for his work in andrology and complex male genital reconstruction. He performs more than 300 complex penile reconstructive procedures annually and has co-authored over 150 original articles and book chapters.
Prof. Giulio Garaffa graduated in medicine with honours from the University of Trieste in Trieste, Italy, where he also completed his specialist training in urology. He subsequently undertook a three-year fellowship in Andrology and Complex Male Genital Reconstruction at University College London Hospitals in London, UK. He later earned a PhD in Biotechnologies of Human Reproduction from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, based on research into genetic abnormalities associated with male infertility.
Following his fellowship, Prof. Garaffa was appointed as a Consultant Urologist and developed a specialist practice in uro-andrology. He currently works at Whittington Hospital in London, UK, with responsibility for its Andrology Service. He has accumulated over 20 years of medical and surgical experience and has obtained Italian national academic habilitation for appointment as a Full Professor in Urology.
His practice focuses on the medical and surgical treatment of male infertility, erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, congenital penile curvature, urethral strictures, and conditions requiring penile or genital reconstruction. He performs more than 300 complex penile reconstructive procedures each year and has contributed to the development of regenerative approaches for sexual dysfunction. His research output includes more than 150 original articles and book chapters, and he is regularly invited to demonstrate complex procedures during international surgical masterclasses.
Prof. Garaffa has contributed to international recommendations and position statements addressing the treatment of Peyronie’s disease through the International Society for Sexual Medicine and the European Society for Sexual Medicine. He is a Fellow of the European Committee of Sexual Medicine and has participated in the European Society for Sexual Medicine’s educational activities. He also supports medical scholarship as a reviewer and editor for international peer-reviewed journals and through the training of urologists in andrology and reconstructive surgery.
