Prof. Henry Vásconez is a board-certified plastic surgeon with subspecialty training in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery. He is Professor Emeritus of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of Kentucky and currently serves as Dean of the School of Medicine at Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Prof. Emeritus Henry C. Vásconez is a plastic surgeon with subspecialty training in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis and his medical degree from Central University in Quito, Ecuador. He completed general surgery residency training at the University of Illinois in Chicago, plastic surgery residency training at Emory University in Atlanta, and a fellowship in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery at the International Craniofacial Institute in Dallas. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
At the University of Kentucky, Prof. Vásconez served in several senior academic and leadership roles, including Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery, Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program, and Director of the Craniofacial Anomalies Team and Clinic. He became Professor Emeritus of Surgery and Pediatrics and was the inaugural holder of the William S. Farish Endowed Chair in Plastic Surgery.
His clinical and academic work has focused on craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery, cleft palate care, complex reconstruction, breast reconstruction, cancer-related reconstruction, tissue cryopreservation, and bone healing research. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and has received research support from organizations including the National Institutes of Health. He was also awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for teaching and research in Ecuador.
Prof. Vásconez currently serves as Dean of the School of Medicine at Universidad San Francisco de Quito. He has also led a long-running medical and surgical mission in Ecuador, providing care for underserved children.
