Dr Karen Breen is a Consultant Haematologist at Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, UK. Her specialty is clotting and bleeding disorders, having trained in this specialty at leading hospitals in Ireland and London. Dr Breen is very interested in scientific research and has contributed to 42 scientific papers and studies published in international scientific journals. She also has many scientific lectures in all areas of hematology and supervises the research of PhD students.
Dr Breen is an experienced and renowned consultant haematologist practising at Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and at her private clinics in London.
She completed her basic medical training in Ireland. She later received her membership with the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland before eventually receiving her fellowship with the Royal College of Pathology. She then received her MD in 2014 after conducting research in antiphospholipid syndrome in the UK. Her experience extends to more than 20 years.
Dr Breen is a principal and co-investigator for several clinical trials, has research projects in Thrombosis and Antiphospholipid Syndrome and runs a Biobank for APS patient samples. She has published original articles, book chapters, and BMJ website on Antiphospholipid Syndrome.
She is also lead of acute management of thrombosis and anticoagulation and a member of the Trust Thromboprophylaxis and Thrombosis Committee at Guys and St.Thomas’ Foundation Trust.
