Dr Paterson's ultimate aim as a clinician and researcher is to improve outcomes for head and neck cancer patients by increasing treatment efficacy and reducing toxicities. She leads multi-disciplinary, clinical researchers into both these important aspects at the University of Glasgow.
She graduated from Glasgow University, Scotland in 1999 and then obtained the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP) Fellowship in 2005. In 2008, she took the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) certificate.

From 2010 until now, Dr. Paterson has been working as an oncology consultant at Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow, Scotland.
She has undertaken a lot of researches and clinical trials and She is also a reviewer for British Journal Cancer and scientific reports (Nature Research Journal).
Dr. Paterson is a member of the Radiotherapy Trials Quality Assurance (RTTQA) group for the NICO study to review benchmark and clinical cases outlining for participating centers.
