Dr. Paterson graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1999. She obtained Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 2005 and Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in Clinical Oncology in 2008. She later completed a research MD in Cancer Studies at the University of Glasgow in 2014.
Since 2010, Dr. Paterson has worked as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. Her current research includes MRI-guided assessment of radiotherapy response, including work such as the MeRInO and BARitOne studies.
Alongside her clinical practice, Dr. Paterson holds an NHS Research Scotland Senior Fellowship and has a senior academic role at the University of Glasgow. She co-leads the Glasgow Head and Neck Cancer Research Group within CRUK RadNet Glasgow and also contributes to broader clinical research, health inequalities work, and multi-centre head and neck cancer studies. She serves as the Oncology Representative for the British Association of Head & Neck Oncologists and is also a Senior Medical Editor for Macmillan Cancer Support’s head and neck cancer information.
